Social Notes

A social note is a short, personal correspondence sent to mark or announce a special occasion. Such notes extend congratulations (on the birth of a baby or graduation, for instance), sympathy (on the death of a loved one, for instance), encouragement (on the occasion of an illness of setback, for example), invitations (to parties or special events, for instance), announcements (of the birth of a baby or a marriage, for instance), and the like.

While some people use store-bought cards for these notes (think Hallmark), many others use nice stationery and write their own messages.
